The first few days were a real blur, I have absolutely no recollection of the accident happening, where the accident happened, medics, nothing! I don't even have an "oh Shit" moment before the accident.
I remember hearing a lot of beeping, a lot of people fussing around me, there were tubes that seemed to be coming out of everywhere! Out of my neck, there were a few from my neck, (I later nick named them my dreads). Tubes in my arm, there was something big sticking out my left arm, everything was annoying me.
I couldn't turn my head to look around, I had an oxygen mask thing on, I wanted to rip if off,
I just wanted to rip everything out. I remember feeling really hot and really itchy.
I do remember there was a nurse that was coming to give me another dose of SOMETHING and the clicking of the tubes in my neck were driving me nuts, I snapped at her.
There just seemed to be so much noise and as I was starting to comprehend I was in a hospital, everything seemed to irritate me, particularly noise.
And then I had an overwhelming feeling of dread.
Hello Rachel, I'm (name, I don't remember) I'll be your nurse for this afternoon, do you know where you are darling? Do you know what day it is??
Me- Yeah it's Sunday, I was just out riding my bike.
No darling. it's Tuesday. You're in the hospital, you had an accident on Sunday sweetheart.
Do you remember anything?
No
You've had some operations, you've got a broken leg and a broken arm and lots of bruising. Are you comfortable?
Yeah, kind of, I can't really move.
Do you feel any pain anywhere?
No, but my throat is really sore.
You've been on life support, you had a tube down your throat, we'e just removed it, that's why your throat feels sore. You're on a lot of medication, so you might feel a bit drowsy and foggy. Let me know if you feel dizzy at all alright?
We need to check and change your dressing for you darling, so we need to move you around a little alright? We're just going to slide you up the bed a bit, we're just going to slide you across the bed a bit, we're going to try and make you as comfortable as we can ok darling. Let me know if you feel any discomfort.
I couldn't feel a dam thing, and I could not move one piece of my body, not one thing.
Everything was blurry and foggy but I could hear familiar voices of my children, friends and family fade in and out.
I was still in ICU, but was starting to becoming conscious and aware.
How did I loose a day? it's Tuesday??
What about Work?
Where are my kids?
Fear and worry were starting to rush through me.
Blimey Rach, waking up in hospital must have had so many emotions and thoughts going through your brain. Jeez.
